Starting aTeam: Our Story with Childhood Cancer

On January 6, 2009, Andy and Jan Thrower were thrown into the formidable world of childhood cancer as their 16-month-old son, Anderson, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, or ALL. During Anderson’s taxing treatments of monthly chemo injections, weekly lab work, and daily oral treatments, the Throwers’ eyes were opened to the deep needs of families who found themselves living in the same life-altering world of pediatric oncology or hematology-related diseases. Inspired by their first-hand experiences, the Throwers sought a way to minister to these deserving families. aTeam ministries was born, offering pediatric cancer support to these families coming for treatment in Birmingham from all over the state of Alabama.
