aTeam Ministries was founded by Jan and Andy Thrower after experiencing firsthand the emotions of having a child diagnosed with cancer. The Throwers’ son, Anderson, was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) on January 6th of 2009 at only 16 months of age. It was during Anderson’s initial treatments, experiencing monthly chemo injections, weekly lab work, and daily oral treatments, that the Throwers began to see past themselves and into the needs of others in similar situations. As a result of this compassion aTeam Ministries was created by a core group of supporters, led by the Throwers, to provide frontline support to families going through pediatric oncology or hematology-related diseases. The Throwers still see firsthand the emotions that come along with childhood cancer, but they now can give those going through the journey the support they deserve. Anderson, through the outstanding care of Children’s Hospital of Alabama, is doing very well and successfully completed his three years of treatment in March 2012.
